Sirmione has quaint medieval streets and a castle. As we were walking into town we looked for the swimming or paddle boat spot & didn't see it. As we left, I remembered our tour guide's instructions. We just hadn't gone in far enough to reach it. Big bummer. Hunger once again got the better of us and we spent the majority of our time here eating and chatting. Another squat toilet at the cafe and no toilet paper. Someone else in our group said she found a regular toilet at a restaurant further in. Lucky girl!
I would have loved to walk around here more and go to the end of the peninsula. This is a really cute town & I wish they gave us more time here.
We then headed out for Verona. Oh fair city of Verona! It was pretty and there were lots of shopping opportunities but it was crowded. We went to Casa di Giulietta to see Juliet's balcony. I love how they've made a tourist attraction out of a play. Hundreds of people were crammed into the courtyard waiting to rub the breast of Juliet for luck in love. We went into the house, took pictures on the balcony and eventually went to rub the statue. Casa di Giuliette also has a squat toilet. So romantic!
We didn't have a lot of free time here either, and so we met back up with our group and headed to Venice. We stayed at a hotel on the mainland, which was the closest thing to a Best Western I had seen. We went to eat at a place down the street called Vecio Decimo which was pretty good. I had pizza with Brie and mushrooms. Yum!
