Coachella

Man, what's a girl to do? I've never bothered going to Coachella. There was only one year I really really wanted to go & didn't b/c it was just after I moved to L.A. Well, PJ Harvey is playing there this year & of course I'm dying to go see her! And she's playing a day I'm supposed to be off from work. Now I'm afraid she'll play a show in town as well & I will miss it b/c of work. Dilemma! Coachella is an expensive mess. How can I go for free?

PJ Harvey has been releasing new videos by Seamus Murphy with each new song that comes out from her new album. The new sound is very weird and different from her other works, thus her point. She spent two years writing lyrics before even touching music. I'm not sure how I'll like it yet, but I'm sure it'll be amazing.

Favorites 2010

Here are my favorite photos from this past year. It seems the year was more about surroundings than people. I remember a few months into 2010 thinking that I hadn't taken a lot of pictures I would call favorites. I think I was a little more lax on what I put into this set b/c of that. Some of these aren't the best and wouldn't have normally been put into the set. I still need to develop several rolls of film too, from which a few photos will hopefully be added in here.

Tonight...

Since I've been away I hadn't been listening much to any music except for when I was on a plane or train. It's weird when I do that to myself, go long periods of time without listening to anything but maybe it gives me a greater fondness of the music I like when I return to it. Today I was listening to some Interpol in the car & it made me really really bummed out that I didn't go see them last September. They are of course, in the upcoming months playing two cities that I have just been to. Go figure.

Dreaming of a white forest

I spent over 2 months back East in states that get snow. There was one day when I was in Ohio that had a light dusting, I think the first of December. How very excited I was to see some snow. Alas, it was all melted later that day. I go to Connecticut & it seems every state around us is getting massive snow. Finally, we get a day & a half of snow on the 26th. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I wish I went out into the forest. I am dreaming of a forest of birch trees under a blanket of snow.

But the fire is so delightful

I've been wanting to write a new blog for quite some time, but I always end up way too tired. So now I'm forcing myself to stay awake a little longer. I've been really bad this year at blog posts. They're so few & far between. So here goes the abridged version of my December pre-blizzard. The first few weeks were mainly spent waking up super early (How did this happen??? I had just been working a month of night shifts & I am not not not a morning person!)... and sitting by the fireplace! I love love love having a fire when I'm home. My dad knows this & kept a fire going for practically 3 weeks. Holy moly! I didn't expect that. It wasn't even that cold outside but I will not complain! I was sitting there thinking about how much wood we burned though. It was a lot... a lot a lot a lot. We got a Christmas tree this year & that combined with the fire really started making me think about consumption of resources & blah blah, you see where I'm going. At least a lot of the wood we burned was from a tree that fell across the street. An extremely tall tree. Our Christmas tree turned out gorgeous. I had a little camera fun with the ornaments & lights.

Once my sleeping schedule drifted back to normal (for me, not you), the holidays fast approached... along with a lunar eclipse! I stayed up all night. I went outside from time to time, but alas, what promised to be a clear view soon was full cloud coverage. I did however get a couple shots off beforehand when my sister called me to come see the giant ring around the moon. Unfortunately I can't (or don't know how to) get a proper shot of the moon & see the surroundings with my point & shoot.

Later in the week I met one of my friends in NYC then later met a couple more friends for dinner. We walked Manhattan like no one's business (what does that even mean?) in freezing cold temperatures & high winds. We must be crazy! We walked around & saw all the NY Christmasy things, saw some awesome store decor, went to the MET to see some art but mostly pose for pictures with statues & then barely made our trains back home. I had 3 minutes to spare when I got on my train. Phew! I got excited to see more Monet paintings. If you ever have the chance to go to his home in Giverny, France - go. It's my favorite place on earth.
